To master your garden's watering routine, follow these essential guidelines:

Water in the Early Morning

Why: Morning watering is ideal as the ground is cool and the sun helps evaporate any water splashed on leaves. This prevents common fungal diseases that thrive on wet, warm foliage overnight.

When: Between 5:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. is generally recommended.

Soak the Roots, Not the Leaves

Why: Plants absorb water through their roots. Spraying water over the top of the plant wastes water through evaporation and does not get the moisture where it is needed most.

How: Place your hose or watering can directly at the soil line or base of the plant.

Apply Deeply and Infrequently

Why: Daily "little and often" watering forces roots to stay near the dry surface, making plants highly vulnerable to heat stress.

How: Water long enough so that the soil is moistened to a depth of 5 to 6 inches. You can test this by pushing your finger or a garden trowel into the dirt about an hour after watering
